CONFERNCE OVERVIEW

Save the date for The Corps Network 2018 National Conference!
When: February 11 - 14, 2018
Where: Washington, DC - The Fairmont Hotel (2401 M St NW, Washington, DC 20037)

The Corps Network National Conference is an annual gathering of national, state, and local leaders in the fields of workforce development, community service, and the environment. Attendees include approximately 200 Directors and senior staff from Service and Conservation Corps across the country; officials from federal agencies; representatives from philanthropic foundations; and friends and supporters of the Corps movement.

Our Theme for the 2018 National Conference: The Trail Ahead

Service and Conservation Corps are nimble organizations, constantly evolving to meet the changing needs of our communities, resource management agencies, the workforce, and America’s young people. The Corps Network’s 2018 National Conference, The Trail Ahead, looks to celebrate this creativity and position Corps in new and emerging fields. At The Trail Ahead, we’ll examine innovation within the Corps movement, as well as new ways in which Corps can confront larger societal concerns. Attendees will hear how Corps use technology and creative partnerships to better meet their Corpsmembers needs, promote program efficiency, and expand work in such fields as resiliency, food security, marine conservation, and infrastructure improvement. With support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, we will also address our Moving Forward Initiative and continue the discussion started at the 2017 conference around addressing racism and creating equity in the Corps and conservation movements. At The Trail Ahead, we’ll bring new voices and ideas to the conservation and workforce development arena and build on our efforts to create a 21st Century Conservation and Service Corps movement.

LEARN ABOUT THE 2017 NATIONAL CONFERENCE

Moving Forward Together: Promoting Racial, Environmental & Community Equity
February 12 - 15, 2017

Corps exist to empower young people and give them the opportunity to better their lives and neighborhoods through service. Every day, Corps confront the problems facing America’s youth and communities. We see poverty and decay, environmental injustice and the effects of climate change. Most of us are all too familiar with the inequities and tension at the root of many recent headlines and controversies. America is talking about these issues and frustrations and – with our place at the intersection of people and government – Corps can bring a unique perspective to the conversation. At Moving Forward Together, we will discuss the ways in which our organizations and the young people we serve address racial, environmental, and community inequities on a day-to-day basis. We will also reflect on our own biases, knowledge deficits, and shortcomings regarding these topics. By talking about these issues and sharing our experiences, we can begin to heal, find solutions and Move Forward, Together.
